Hello everyone and welcome.

I’m Shorna, the founding director of Sickle Synced CIC.

I’m so glad that you’re here.

This is the first blog post; I’m proud to introduce you to Sickle Synced CIC - a community interest company that is dedicated to bridge the gap in individuals knowledge on sickle cell.

I founded Sickle Synced CIC from a place of lived experience and frustration that many of us in the sickle cell community are not treated well.

I have experienced mistreatment first hand in healthcare, employment and school settings.

I have also seen the negative impact that a lack of understanding of the condition can have.

These experiences gave me the motivation to create something that can drive positive change.

Sickle Synced CIC’s mission is to make the world a safer place for individuals living with sickle cell.


We want to do this through our 5 pillars:


🌙Educate the general public on Sickle Cell Disease so that they have an understanding of it, whilst also equipping them with the relevant knowledge to provide support to people with the condition

🌙Encourage people to know the signs of Sickle Cell Crises to reduce poor health outcomes and premature mortality risk in those that have Sickle Cell Disease

🌙Reduce poorer health outcomes in those with Sickle Cell Disease, through sharing advice and providing mentorship on navigating life with the condition - especially for those who are transitioning into adulthood

🌙Encourage blood donation in the African/Caribbean community to support people with Sickle Cell Disease that have blood transfusions as part of their health management

🌙Educate the African/Caribbean community on the importance of and implications of not getting Sickle Cell trait tested to enable them to have more informed reproductive choices and increase the Sickle Cell trait testing rates before conception


We are excited to help individuals with sickle cell, carers, school staff, employers, frontline healthcare professionals and everyone else that we can educate to become and stay Sickle aware™.
